Pitlochry is an ideal village for tourists to visit at any time of year. It is a very picturesque Town and is a frequent winner of the Britain in Bloom and Scotland in Bloom awards. Whether for a short break or a longer holiday it offers visitors many diverse amenities. Situated in the heart of Scotland there exists famous scenery such as the beautiful walk up the Mountain of Ben-Y-Vrackie, through the Black Spout woods with it’s famous waterfall “almost in the village” or you can visit one of the most photographed vistas in Britain at the Queen’s View along the beautiful Loch Tummel.

Pitlochry is famous for its history. In the nearby village of Killiecrankie exists the ‘Soldier’s Leap’, famous for the government solider in 1869 who cleared the 18 foot gap above the River Garry in a single jump, while fleeing from the Jacobites during the Battle of Killiecrankie. The village is also famous for its visit from Queen Victoria in 1944 while she was staying at Blair Castle. The building of the railway through Pitlochry in 1863 brought it visitors from all areas of Britain & afar and began its transition into a famous tourist town. Popular sites in the area include Dunkeld Cathedral which was built in the 13th century, then rebuilt in the 16th after being partially destroyed, Blair Castle which was built in the 14th century and Castle Menzies from the 16th century. The qaint & original village of Moulin is a small town at the top of Pitlochry, also famous for it’s history stretching back into the mists of time & leaving us with much evidence of it’s rich past with Crusader graves, Standing Stones & many Hut Circles still evident in Moulin Moor above the village. It’s church rebuilt in 1874 was originally founded by St. Colm in around 700AD which placed Moulin at the centre of Church & Commercial life in the area for more than 1000 years. The ruins of the Black Castle (Castle Dubh) can still be seen. In the 13th century its occupants were struck by plague and so the castle, and all those inside, were destroyed.

A variety of attractions are available including the local Golf Course, an Amusement Arcade (especially for the children!), the Pitlochry Dam and Salmon Ladder, the Festival Theatre the 2 Distilleries Edradour (the smallest in Scotland) & Blair Athol & the famous Brewery at the Moulin Inn. Many unique shops line the main street such as Heather Gems, Heritage Jewellers, local Butchers & Delicatessens and woollen shops. Nearby is the House of Bruar, Perthshire’s own ‘department store’ which features country clothing, accessories, antiques, home ware and a food hall.

For the more active visitors, there is a plethora of Walks of all grades , from short rambles to extensive rock climbing, Mountain Bike hire is available and there exists designated routes within the area. Seven miles north lies Blair Castle (still with it’s own private army - the only one in Europe!) and ten miles west lies Castle Menzies both well recommended for a visit.

During the summer, there are many different traditional events, such as the Highland Games which originated in 1852 and takes place in both Blair Atholl (at the beginning of the season) and Pitlochry (towards the end of the summer), the Horse Trials,
